Review: Ms. Tee – Female Baller

When you listen to the Female Baller album by Ms. Tee, the sounds incorporated are bounce music, feminism, gangsta rap, lyricism, sex rap, and spoken word. Her sex raps, lyricism, and spoken word are key factors that make this album a listening success. Ms. Tee tells her life all from the perspective of a female baller.

Female Baller was a classic NOLA rap album that came from Cash Money Records during their heyday in the 1990s era. Now this was during the pre-Universal era of Cash Money before the national distribution deal with Universal Records when Female Baller was released. Bounce music, materialism, gangsta rap, and lyricism were the recipe for success on Cash Money albums at the time. Mannie Fresh produced a majority of Female Baller as he did with all pre-Universal era Cash Money albums.

Female Baller by Ms. Tee was a slept on classic! No track is worth skipping through. You can listen to Female Baller all the way through without skipping any tracks. Her sex raps, lyricism, and spoken word are key factors that make this album a listening success. The bounce music match up with the beats.

In the intro we can hear talking but suddenly the phone rings. Ms. Tee appears to be on the phone. Another man is one the line. Suddenly as Ms. Tee Hangs up the phone as her husband tells her to bring her ass down. Ms. Tee is fighting with her boo (husband) and the start arguing. The heat ensues from there.

Cheezy What, Cheezy Who was an infamous diss track to NOLA rap artist Cheeky Blakk. At the time, Ms. Tee and Cheeky Blakk had beef with each other because Cheeky Blakk had sex with Ms. Tee’s boyfriend/husband Pimp Daddy. This event had both to have gotten into an altercation. Cheeky Blakk was signed to Tombstone Records and Ms. Tee was signed to Cash Money Records so that fueled the beef more. The Ms. Tee vs. Cheeky Blakk beef was famous throughout New Orleans, Louisiana. However, to this day, Ms. Tee and Cheeky Blakk are friends now.

If He Don’t Trick is a sex rap track written by Ms. Tee. If He Don’t Trick exposes and is aimed towards men who are unfaithful to their woman by sleeping and dating other women. Track If He Don’t Trick has a smooth slow melody incorporated into bounce music. If He Don’t Trick samples The Floaters – Float On.

I Like It (Mannie Fresh Style) is an instrumental that incorporates bounce music with electronically processed beats through a synthesizer. Many tracks on pre-Universal era Cash Money albums that had “Mannie Fresh Style” after whichever track. Many “Mannie Fresh Style” were on the pre-Universal era Cash Money albums. These “Mannie Fresh Style” were basically instrumentals.

I rate this album 5/5*****!!

Review: Juvenile – 400 Degreez

Juvenile – 400 Degreez is the album that catapulted Cash Money Records into mainstream success and stardom. The loudness of New Orleans bounce is what helped this album become a success. Juvenile never fails to disappoint audiences with his raps.

The song Back That Azz Up is what made Cash Money take over the years of 1998 through 2001. The loudness of New Orleans bounce sound in this song and its versatile sexually provocative lyrics are what made the song an international success.

Ha is the other song which made Juvenile a mainstream success due to his unique style of rapping where he ends every line with “ha”. The song also has that New Orleans bounce sound. Juvenile comes with that Dirty South rap sound. You can never go wrong when you have Mannie Fresh producing a song for you. His beats are pure fire!

Mannie Fresh put down the hardest beats on the title track. There is no denying that. Cash Money was slaying all that came against them. Juvenile was no exception as he was their most exceptional lyricist.

Juvenile On Fire is a cautionary tale telling us not all women can be trusted. Fellas, some of these chicks out here be sack chasers. Be careful for that especially. Juvenile On Fire is true in that sense. It’s sociology on music here.

Follow Me Now calms down the mood of this album. The song similar to a fiesta and has a Brazilian tropicana vibe. Follow Me Now is one of Juvenile’s underrated songs that have lyrical skill.

I rate this album 5/5*****!!

Review: Lil Slim – Powder Shop

With the underground success of his debut album The Game Is Cold, he soon recorded a follow-up album called Powder Shop. New Orleans bounce meets gangsta rap. Lil Slim can really take credit for Cash Money’s early sound. The tracks are produced by Manny Fresh. Some of the songs have samples in them. These were the rhymes that the whole city switched up for in their bounce songs. This album is hot from beginning to end and is without a doubt an instant classic! You can’t find good rap like this anymore.

Lil Slim creates his own style of bounce music called Eagle Street Bounce on the track Eagle St. Bounce. The song itself is a classic among Lil Slim fans due to the sound of New Orleans bounce music. Eagle St. Bounce is an original song Lil Slim wrote himself.

Hoes I used to sweat II revisits Hoes I used to sweat from the The Game Is Cold album. Lil Slim mimics and parodies the style DJ Jubilee and his song Stop, Pause. Although it’s a decent song with low production, the song itself gets repetitive with subject material.

Blunt after Blunt is a decent song Mannie Fresh produced himself. Powder Shop is title track that has many drug references galore.

I rate this album 4/5****!!

Review: Lil Slim – The Game Is Cold

New Orleans bounce meets gangsta rap on Lil Slim’s album The Game Is Cold. This was Lil Slim’s first album he had ever released. The Game Is Cold was released on cassette only in 1993 on Cash Money Records. If you are/were a fan of the early Cash Money sound, then this album is for you! Lil Slim can really take credit for Cash Money’s early sound. Some of the songs have samples in them. These were the rhymes that the whole city switched up for in their bounce songs. This album is hot from beginning to end and is without a doubt an instant classic! You can’t find good rap like this anymore.

New Orleans bounce meets gangsta rap on Bounce Slide Ride. Bounce Slide Ride is a gangsta rap cover version of Bounce, Skate, Roll by Vaughn Mason. Bounce Slide Ride is one of the dopest gangsta bounce songs from Cash Money. Bounce Slide Ride put Lil Slim on the map. Lil Slim was only known in New Orleans, Louisiana. Bounce Slide Ride was produced by the legendary Mannie Fresh. Mannie Fresh had a fresh and new style at the time that was unheard of.

These were the rhymes that the whole city switched up for in their bounce songs.:

Lil Slim and B-32 keep it real on the track Cold Game. It’s a cold game out there. It’s a dark gangsta rap track from the Dirty South. It was the hustling that made the big bucks. Lil Slim was a hustler in the streets of NOLA.

Lil Slim mimics and parodies the style DJ Jubilee and his song Stop, Pause on Hoes I used to sweat. Bounce rap can be heard all over the track.

The Game Is Cold did fund enough studio time for his next album Powder Shop which eventually led to his 3rd album Thuggin’ N Pluggin’. It was the hustling that made the big bucks. Cash Money tried to get their name out there with Lil Slim but that didn’t catch on.

I rate this album 4/5****!!
