Payroll Giovanni – Ghost Mode has that new school Detroit sound with hi-fi production and gangsta rap oriented lyrics. 2023 seems to be a good year for Detroit rap. Standout tracks include Feel How I Look, Checkin Into Suites, Crib In The Woods, and Posting Less. The album title’s name is an appropriate name coming from a Detroit rapper.
Feel How I Look explains how Giovanni is feeling how he looks. Giovanni does whatever the fuck he wants to do and does it with pride. Giovanni is the type of nigga you don’t see much. The song uses loud hi-fi production which certainly helps makes the vocals be crystal clear.
Giovanni just wakes up and does whatever the fuck he wants to do. He put in the work. You feel me? Giovanni is feeling how he looks.
Giovanni has been in his own zone lately. Shoppin’ at Revive in his free time is something he enjoys doing. He liked this chain at the store until he seen his own chain that he was wearing. What an embarrassing comparison. Should he front it like he doesn’t need his?
This bitch had seen Giovanni and his lady while they were out shopping. She seen them and quickly knew her nigga was the cheap guy. The women were out-hustlin’ niggas and he could see why. Giovanni is the type of nigga you don’t see much. He supplies heat that just usually be hot. Giovanni is feeling how he looks.
Shopping with jewelers in his spare time is another thing he enjoys doing. He had to get the bag on his own and still shared his. He told his youngin, “Don’t buy a chain yet. Just wear mines and move this bag. Don’t splurge until you got a fair grind.” Giovanni got fronted and doubled it. Then he passed some older cats he used to hustle with because he was mainly saving everything but a bitch. He stands on big business and this shit showing. He rides in big Mercedes Benzes with whole kit glowing through the tint.
Checkin Into Suites explained how Giovanni was checking into a hotel suite for a week to sell marijuana and conduct illegal business. The song uses loud hi-fi production which certainly helps makes the vocals be crystal clear. Now those chords and synths you hear in the background are very heavenly to the ears.
Giovanni checks into a suite. He tells the front desk, “Got a reservation under Giovanni.” Giovanni is checking into hotel suites for a week at the cost of one’s monthly rent which is an exorbitant amount of money. Possibly even more.
He did not check into this suite or reserve a reservation to party. He is checked into this suite on some get money shit. First thing he does is tap in and connect with his people. Giovanni has so much on his back between family and crew. Then he gets a strap and gets the stacks.
Suddenly the feds sweep in a hit his man’s crib. The federal police took took some money and work. Somebody must have told federal police where he lives.
It’s a dirty game. It’s either rap or the birdie game. Because when dealing with weed (marijuana), these niggas just complain asking what’s the strain. They claim that gets them lower. If that’s the case, then why the fuck they have Giovanni bring them over? If you just started gettin’ money and weed, then you wouldn’t understand. Rollie plain as fuck, but it cost a hundred grand. He would rather knock out features up in the lab and celebrate somewhere upscale with the fam.
People wanted to see Giovanni fall. But he had other plans. They slandered his name and then he grew bigger. Now he is rich. Giovanni invested in himself. That’s good money spent. His life changed when he bought his first half-zip.
Posting Less explains how Giovanni has been posting less and living life more as he is making money which helps him live his life. If he is not focused, then he is not growing. Stay focused and stick to your mission is the message of the song.
Rappers are under a microscope. So we can’t slip either. When you got power, there’s just certain spots you can’t go. A lot done changed, but Giovanni is the same though. He has calmed down since he transitioned from being a hustler to a rapper. He has seen animosity aimed towards him. That’s the gang though. But that’ll bring the wrong attention and change his focus. And if he is not focused, then he is not growing. Giovanni is getting rid of what doesn’t flip the vision.
Rich Nigga Vibes is about how Giovanni gives his lady “rich nigga vibes” due to his flashy persona and style. The songs layers of filtered trap beats.
Giovanni’s lady is either in the mall or staring at herself admiring her beauty in the mirror. She be ballin’ on the niggas. She left her last dude because she ain’t into bullshitters or fraudsters. That’s a shame she had to hold that nigga’s hand. Her friends always said, “Girl, you need a real nigga.”
Giovanni put her toes in the sand while they held hands. Then they sip 1942 somewhеre with a view. Fuck slidin’ in the club. He’d rather slide in her. This time Giovanni is riding as a passenger while she drives the Coup. All the hoes that couldn’t get Giovanni are hella mad at her when they see them both in the Coup together with the top down. She really likes Giovanni. So she tells him, “Ooh, I like you, you give rich nigga vibes. Lookin’ at this watch, I’m on rich nigga time. Dark shades on a rich nigga eyes.”
She likes a laid-back nigga that just be on his shit. Giovanni likes ladies that are loyal. They don’t be in the mix. She is confident as she is not worried about who is on Giovanni’s dick. Because she know what she brings. Giovanni will his lady what she needs. She’s gonna get the big crib with the big kitchen. He ain’t passes out riches to no broke bitches You lil’ niggas are out of her league.
Excuse My French is one of his most hilarious songs to date. Giovanni says some of the most quotable shit throughout the entirety of the song. His quotable lyrics make the song memorable. Below are some of the quotable lyrics he rapped throughout the song.
She think I’m chasin’ after hoes, when I’m chasin’ after dough
I’m focused on a vow, I hustle for us both
I’m hustlin’, doin’ shows, so I’m directin’ the low (Oh, yeah, oh, yeah)
All this bullshit is startin’ to stress me
‘Cause on top of that, my nigga then broke the code
Then back to the city, I’m in the foreign dodgin’ potholes
‘Cause sometimes this rap ain’t what is cracked up the beat
Sold crack, dust, and E, was young, tryna get a piece
Jumped off the porch, lost the leash, became a beast
She think I’m in the suite wit’ freaks, went OT
All this bullshit been drainin’ a nigga soul
Need a trip to Cabo, Margheritas and Tacos (Yeah)
Ain’t gotta think about dealin’, yeah, that’s a damn good feelin’
In the meantime, I’m in this, somethin’ deep
Checkin’ on some block dough, then spend some time wit’ you
Here are some one-liners from the song.
She think I’m chasin’ after hoes, when I’m chasin’ after dough
I like to go on vacays, I love to keep you froze (Froze)
When I do, don’t think I’m fuckin’ someone else (Someone else)
In the meantime, I’m in this, somethin’ deep
These swimmin pools for my children wit’ money stacked to the ceilin’ (Oh, yeah, oh, yeah)
Need a trip to Cabo, Margheritas and Tacos (Yeah)
Checkin’ on some block dough, then spend some time wit’ you
Ain’t gotta think about dealin’, yeah, that’s a damn good feelin’
I rate this album 5/5*****!!
I love this
Great post! I really enjoyed learning about the themes in Payroll Giovanni’s Ghost Mode and the standout tracks you mentioned. I have a question – how do you think Giovanni’s transition from being a hustler to a rapper has affected his music and persona?
