Review: The Bright Lunch Trio – The Bright Lunch Trio

The Bright Lunch Trio’s self-titled album is one of the lesser known Canadian jazz albums that seems to have been forgotten. Many of the songs on the album are love songs powered and backed by a jazz guitar. All of the songs for the The Bright Lunch Trio were written by Nathan Hiltz and Whitney Ross-Barris.

Not Far From My Heart explained how Whitney’s love is not far from her heart despite the far distance he is away from her. The man she loves is always on her mind. The song is a love song with a tender soothing melody over smooth instrumentation.

Something on the breeze wakes a quiet memory Whitney once had. And faint as it may feel it suddenly reveals the man she loves is always on her mind. If she hears a song with a tender melody, she knows it won’t be long until he is here with her. Love turned to grey when he went away. Her heart has been tarnished since they’ve been apart. This reverie’s constantly here in her brain.

As dawn begins to break, Whitney lingers in this dreamy place. And just before she awakens, she sleeps in his embrace. He is always on her mind. He is not far from her heart.

Whitney is fed up with city life. So she decided to moved to an island on the Canadian coastal plains. That is the synopsis of Island View.

Whitney is fed up with city life. So she has decided to moved to an island on the Canadian coastal plains. Because if she has to spend another minute in this photograph of everything a life’s supposed to be, her soul will be even more worn out and deteriorate. She’d rather be marooned without a dollar to spend and an island dwelling recluse beach bum.

Listen up! Because if you wanna leave your cares behind, Whitney has got for you a new idea of happiness beyond the things in hand. So just throw down all your shackles and your sad responsibilities. The answer is beyond the water’s beautiful image. Revolution is simply taking it in.

This House I Built With You is about a house Whitney built and constructed with her man.

There is a place Whitney built and constructed with her man. There is a place where they wove their nest with their own four hands. They made happiness in the house Whitney built with him. The crooked door that is a symbol of the bad decor. The place he trips on the kitchen floor. This money pit that is this blessed piece of shit.

Well, there are days she sometimes find she’d up and leave the whole mess behind. And never return again. Just when she think that it’s cursed, she recalls they could be off much worse. There are days Whitney often yearns to walk out the door and not ever return. And start somewhere else anew. But she pauses to recall. How could she leave this silly house she built with him? The memories papering these four walls.

A perfect mess that’s all their own. This is a place that they call home. I know it’s flawed and slightly odd. The drapes are hammered. The carpet sawed. With no regrets, they went straight into debt.

I rate this album 4/5****.
