Onyx – Against All Authorities is one of the most woke Onyx releases ever. The members of Onyx get both politically conscious and socially conscious by raising issues of social awareness, political injustice, and racism. So they decided to strike back against authorities who oppress minorities with their release Against All Authorities. This is a huge step away from their typical grimy New York sound. This EP is still relevant today as it was in 2015. This EP has that Got that 90’s feel.
Onyx decided to strike back against authorities who oppress minorities on the song Strike Bac. They challenge the racist authorities and systematic racism that is run by the system. The song was a message to the world to stop racism. Revolutionaries and minorities are being targeted. We are being hunted. It’s a war out here. You gotta be smart when you’re dealing with these motherfuckers. Gather all your arms and get ready!
Law enforcement are wildin’ out like black lives don’t matter. It’s a war zone in the hood since city council brought the navy with guns that kill the strong black men like James Evans.
SickFlo is saying that he is a living target that is moving around (like that police train their officers with) only because of the fact that he is African-American. He is basically pointing out how racist cops are. And how if you were/are white things would have been entirely different. That is what the lyrics “No drama, I’ve been a terror to this darkness/But due to my dark skin, I’m a movin’ target” mean.
The court system ain’t got no honor. Although you give up and state your innocence you won’t get a fair trial or even be heard out. Like Eric Garner who told the arresting officers several times that he didn’t do anything and they should leave him alone. He still got harshly arrested, in fact they put him on the ground and later chocked him to death. They don’t care. You can get shot like a dog. There’s a million more crooked cops takin’ their lives.
Sticky Fingaz calls out former US President Obama for being a disappointment to the American people in these lyrics here. “Word to Obama, where’s my change? Man that shit/Ain’t been abolished the problem is, we’re still enslaved/We at war, with five-o” Only Sticky Fingaz can judge him and may hail burn the marijuana. You can see the pain in his soul.
Sticky Fingaz says some of the most quotable dialogue as always.
Word to Obama, where’s my change? Man that shit
Ain’t been abolished the problem is, we’re still enslaved
There’s a million more, crooked cops takin’ their lives
We survived, bust shots to rotten apple
Only I can judge me and may hail burn the marijuana
Onyx takes an anti-police stance on their song Against All Authorities. Onyx decided to strike back against authorities who oppress minorities on the song. They explain their hatred towards police and law enforcement. Against all authorities is an anarchist motto! Onyx and Snowgoons are a great combination.
Look Like a Criminal deals with racial profiling by the police as police often use racial profiling against minorities and people of color (POC). The song was a message to the world to stop racism because minorities are being targeted unfairly by law enforcement.
Police wanna sweat because Fredro Starr keeps a hoodie on, Bill Belichick. Every night he is getting stooped and frisked by NYPD due to their infamous stop-and-frisk policy. When he walks in the drugstore they think he is there to shoplift when he is just picking up Percocet prescriptions. Police always tell Fredro that he fit the descriptions. So what? Fredro got prior convictions and can’t leave the house less it’s under conditions. In other words, Fredro is a changed man, but they think he is doin’ crime every time money exchanges hands. They scared to death when they see him. Motherfucking police always be fucking with Fredro Starr everywhere he go. Does he look like a criminal?
Motherfucking police always be fucking with Sticky Fingaz everywhere he go. Does he look like a criminal? They say that his facials look so violent. That’s racial profiling. Police pull him over like his tag is expired and shit. He’s the reason their kids like to listen to rap tunes.
On Black Fatigue, Onyx takes another anti-police stance. They explained their hatred towards police and law enforcement just like on their song Against All Authorities.
When you’re dealin’ with the police, better get a gun and a vest. How many black lives do they gotta take? How many marches do we gotta make out of state? Sometimes you gotta take matters in your own hand. So get your guns and hold the fort down just like Homeland Security.
The streets catching a fire and the bodies that are stacked are blacks. Jaded authority is having parade on slaying minorities. SickFlo is craving and brave enough to snuff the majority of these figures, demons in uniforms. Protect and serve as much as the reality of Unicorns.
Da Liquor Store was a tribute and reminder of what happened to Eric Garner. Eric Garner was selling cigarettes outside a liquor store. He told the arresting officers several times that he didn’t do anything and they should leave him alone. But yet he still got arrested and treated harshly by police. Police put him on the ground and chocked him to death. This could happen to anyone. That is the message of this song. Cops are killing niggas at the liquor store.
This man was just going to the store to get some “Swisher’s” cigarettes and get a couple scratch off lottery tickets. He sat a long day and worked his ass off. Ain’t doing nothing just minding his own business. Trying to get home and watch the Miami Heat play Memphis Grizzlies.
For some reason, police are running at him with their guns out. The store owner saw he had a gun. So on the low, the store owner picked up the phone and called “the one’s”. That man ain’t even have a chance. They would shoot bullets in his body up and look like they made him dance. Shut down like a wanted man. Like his face on a wanted poster reward a hundred grand.
The next day in the headlines: “Another cop shot a cop” To their surprise, this nigga was a cop undercover. They just thought he was another nigga. He was unarmed and defenseless. They claim he had a concealed weapon. That was just a paper bag with his Guinness he paid for. Police killing niggas gotta stop. This killing is senseless. Justice is blind. The law always find the pigs innocent.
[Verse 2: Ras Kass]
Have a liquor store interests, alarm sound like “Don’t Be a Menace”
Unarmed and defenseless, this killing is senseless
They claim he had a concealed weapon
That was just a paper bag with his Guinness he paid for
Still got shot with acuteness, everyday blackless
Black males on the hit list, filmed by eyewitness
Justice is blind, that bitch always find the pigs innocent
Yo, how was it legal to abuse me?
Bodega, choked me to death for a loosey
Make my brain bleed at the Wayne Greek (?)
I needed first aid at the right ‘A’
Murdered for being black guy on bright day
Fuck dirty harry, crooked cop make my day
Cause if we targeted your children like that
You’d hate our race, cop, you already do that, bitch
Fuck da Law is yet another anti-police song where Onyx takes an anti-police stance against law enforcement and authority. Onyx tells police officers they ain’t a shit without a badge and a gun. They don’t care if the pigs get done. In the hood, no one respects them.
I rate this EP 5/5*****!!
