The 2021 album Fat Ray – Santa Barbara is a jazz rap album which gives rap music what it has been missing out on. The album is filled with filtered lo-fi boom bap beats, collected samples, and jazz soundscapes. The way he wraps up his songs in a single verse is nothing short of compelling. However that makes the album disheartening for those searching for longevity.
Ethan Hunt is a theatrical rap song where Fat Ray plays the role of the Ethan Hunt character who is the protagonist of the Mission: Impossible movie series. Fat Ray was on some Mission: Impossible type shit. He was clearly inspired by the Mission: Impossible movie series.
The Kitchen is full of White Castle. The unstoppable clique is on some Mission Impossible shit. Fat Ray is the black Ethan Hunt. He ain’t gotta hear the beat but once. He is a real spitta. He can hop on the computer and turn into a Cartеl leader. The unstoppable clique executes an ass beating. And you could save him from a bunch of shit that they could prevent if they quit tweaking.
The One explained how Fat Ray has to fight to survive in these drug wars where lords get shot from behind. The One explained how everyone wants to be with him and to be like him. Fat Ray is the one everyone (all of those) want to get with. This that Fat Ray shit.
Everybody wanna be the one. Everybody coming for the one. Everybody wanna be the one. They looking for the one. They come to see the one. They calling Fat Ray the one. This that Fat Ray shit.
Fat Ray is like the black samurai with the headband over his eyes that is number one. This black samurai engages in blood sport as he has to be ready to fight to survive. In other words, he has to fight to survive. In these drug wars where lords get shot from behind. Young niggas run off with work multiple times. And they out here living they best lives on the line. He done showed love but niggas hit me with that fake shit.
I rate this album 3/5***.
