The Rough Cuts album by Parov Stelar is nu-jazz meets old school jazz rhythms and contemporary production. Songs such as Charleston Butterfly, Lost In Amsterdam, and Good Bye Emily are classics which use old school jazz rhythms with the time signatures and drum patterns. Parov Stelar – The Rough Cuts is one of the most underrated nu-jazz releases in jazz music.
The song Charleston Butterfly pays homage and tribute to a dance called The Charleston and uses a time signature of 4|4. Vintage swing and ragtime jazz are used in the song. The Charleston is a swing dance named after the city of Charleston, South Carolina.
As I killed the caterpillar, I fell into a curious thriller. So I could not become a butterfly. To choose you now into my life is something I desire. I wanna be your butterfly. Smile at me. Hold me tight and I feel free. I feel free to choose you now into my life. I wanna be your butterfly.
Good Bye Emily was a fair well song Parov wrote about on Emily. Emily is in a toxic controlling relationship with a man who thinks he reigns over her and rules her life. There is no way her man can stay in her life. With her right of self-determination, she is one who can change this situation and break free from him.
Emily thinks her man reigns over her and rules her life. Emily is glad to be the one who can change this situation. With her right of self-determination, she is one who can change this situation and break free from this toxic controlling relationship.
Emily is much too good to be punished. She is much too nice to get hurt. She is much too loud to be silent. She is much too precious to be ignored. No good deed goes unpunished as they say. There is no way for her man to stay in her life. He thinks he smiles to Emily. His grimace hits Emily like a knife.
Lost In Amsterdam is about this woman Parov met while visiting Amsterdam, Netherlands back in 2000.
Parov met this Dutch woman in Amsterdam, Netherlands back in 2000. This Dutch woman had brown hair and blue eyes. She made Parov nervous. And suddenly a moment full of harmony comes to him.
She came over and asks Parov, “Do you want to dance?” Parov tells her, “Yes!!!”
Parov never thought that this could happen next to him. He’s always felt insecure but she killed like poison never that you could feel. He was falling as all the flowers die in hopes she came one day to find a place where all the souls are lying. Parov wonders what he has ever done to deserve this. His shadow gazes up to the sky. He was falling as all the flowers are dying.
I rate this album 3/5***.
