Tommy Wright III – On The Run is an action packed gangsta rap album which gives us details Tommy Wright III’s run in’s with the law and other escapades. The bold and daring On The Run does not fail to disappoint. This is dark Memphis rap at its finest. The album uses a mixture of gangsta rap and trap. Fans call this album Tommy Wright III’s best album to date and consider this to be a “best of album”.

Thuggish Ruggish Bustaz is highly favored among Tommy Wright III fans due to the dark trap sound and eerie-ness. That is how and why Thuggish Ruggish Bustaz is a Memphis rap classic to this day. The song Thuggish Ruggish Bustaz displayed his distaste and displeasure of southern rappers during that time.

Verse 1, which is Tommy’s verse, is aimed at Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Cleveland, Ohio.

[Verse 1: Tommy Wright III]
One day I’m at the store finna get rung up by the cashier
On the front of a magazine, “Bone Punks-N-Harmony”
Flip to the page, what do I see?
Bone talking ’bout Memphis, Tennessee
Like a dog called us country
I don’t see a mothafucking thang funny
Head to the airport buy ten tickets
Cause Ten Wanted Men on vacation
Saint Claire niggas face down on the ground
Anybody move pop with no hesitation
Talk that shit better come equipped
Put the grip to your dome, tell me bone what you gonna do?
I hope y’all fuck that dirty ho Eazy, fuck so y’all can die too

Tommy explains that he is not hesitant to murder Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. He will kill them by death through crucifixion which is nailing them to a cross similar to how Jesus Christ was nailed to a cross. Tommy explains how he is not hesitant to murder Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in these lyrics.

I got bone off in my trunk (For real?)
Tommy be stealing and dealing
A villain that’s willing to crucifix bone in the killing
Tommy gonna wait till the first of the month
Get Bone for they food stamps when we shoot em up

Notice how he calls out Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in these lyrics.

B – Baggage bustaz bustin booties breaking each others backs
O – Open your mouth again
We coming to Cleveland fully strapped
N – Never shot a nigga in your life
You niggas would not wanna see you hanging from a tree
E – For the cheese you didn’t receive
Got dicked in the ass by Eazy-E

He clearly calls out Bone Thugs-N-Harmony here. The proof is in the pudding.

B – Baggage bustaz bustin booties breaking each others backs
O – Open your mouth again
N – Never shot a nigga in your life
E – For the cheese you didn’t receive

Here are the lyrics Tommy dissed Eazy E with.

I hope y’all fuck that dirty ho Eazy, fuck so y’all can die too

Yeah I heard how you follow Eazy-E around Cali
Bet he never even heard you rap one time
Ten Wanted Men gon’ follow your ass
But we gon’ be strapped with Gl-izz-ock nines
Keep Tennessee up out your mouth
Next time a magazine ask you for a comment
We gonna see if you can still rap fast
When I snatch your tongue out from your stomach

The reason why Tommy Wright III dissed Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is because Bone Thugs-N-Harmony were talking bad about Memphis, Tennessee in a February edition of Vibe Magazine.

Do or Die explains how deeply Tommy is down for his crown and how he rides as a criminal. Lyrics to this song are what stand out. These lyrics evoke such powerful imagery. “In the midst of the pistol smoke”

The beginning of Do or Die has a man preaching to us telling us that life is based on the decisions that you make. Life is based on decisions. Life is what you make it.

[Man preaching]
Either you choose life or you choose death
Either you choose life or you choose death
Based on the decision that you make
God has come and offered you life
Your enemy can only offer you death (death row)
If you choose to stay with your enemy
Then you choose death (death row)
If you choose to leave the enemy
And strike out into the unknown

Tommy lets us know one of us is going to die during the chorus. It’s a homicide that is going to go down. A situation of total devastation for either person.

Die motherfucka cause you knew this was a do or die
Either you gon’ die or I’m gon’ die
I-I-It’s a homicide
(4x)

Down for his crown, ten toe down. He ain’t givin’ a fuck! He is runnin’ and gunnin’ with a tech in his coat. People get a bullet on side of their face just for fuckin’ with Tommy. The nigga that’s creepin’, sneakin’, peekin’, and bustin’ wide. All while seeking the beautiful money. Isn’t it funny how a nigga get scared?

He always wanted to do a drive-by. Buck a nigga down to the ground hangin’ out the sunroof. Doggin’ the bitches and hoggin’ the riches. And he is fillin’ these ditches with dead bodies. Leaving snitches in ditches. Do or die. No lie. This shit ain’t going to stop till his casket drops. One man gang Tommy Wright the third known as Tommy III. Street Smart is in charge.

He always wanted to do a drive-by. Buck a nigga down to the ground hangin’ out the sunroof. He is trying to find business to be in a drive-by for. Tommy is on a mission as he creeps deep with a click thick as John Gotti. Do or die. No lie. This shit ain’t going to stop till his casket drops. One man gang Tommy Wright the third known as Tommy III. Street Smart is in charge. The lyrics below explain this.

I always wanted to do a drive-by
Buck a nigga down to the ground hangin’ out the sunroof
Wid the Glock cocked ready aim fire
Grippin’ the .44, lookin’ from side to side
Tryna find business to be in a drive-by
On the mission, as I creep deep wid a click thick as John Gotti
Doggin’ the bitches and hoggin’ the riches
And fillin’ these ditches wid dead bodies….

The song Last Alternative deal with Tommy killing people. You see killing people is his last alternative. The song is a low-key masterpiece.

He starts off the song in such a violent manner with his lyrics. “Hollow points spray, everyday, all day, till the day that I fuckin’ die” Hollow points spray everyday until the day he dies. Tryna fuck wit Tommy Wright don’t fight just blast.

The last nigga tried big pimpin but he died. Tommy killed him and dumped his body in an empty field. Bustas braggin’, eye cappin’. They are lying about who they done put to rest. Prove it to Tommy and (commit) do a street sweep. Put a hole in a nigga chest that forgot to wear a bullet proof vest.

Tommy wonders if shit was different when he moved to South Memphis in these lyrics.

Wasn’t shit different when I moved in South Memphis
For the nigga millimetre for they broad got pimpin’
Lampin’ on the track wid ah handful ah rocks
And ah Ziploc Glock on safe, gotta watch UFO, undercover 5-0
Still on parole can’t catch another case
Creepin’ night Tommy Wright, no street lights in the hood

The song On The Run explores how Tommy Wright III’s life is while running from the police. He is one the run from the laws. Tommy Wright III discusses how he is continuously on the run from police.

Tommy Wright III is running while he is gunning down police officers while on the run. He is running from the law. Life is no fun on the run. But he does not want to end up in 201. 201 is a political reference to the address of the Shelby County Criminal Justice Complex jail which is located at 201 Poplar Ave in Memphis, Tennessee, US 38103. 201 is a popular cultural reference in Memphis rap.

Tommy Wright III is killing these bitches and leavin’ these snitches in ditches when they do discuss his business. He is creepin’ through the dark in your backyard. Getting ready to take your riches. Tommy Wright III discusses how he is continuously on the run from police.

His flow and cadence match the beats when he raps these lyrics. “On the run, gotta get away from the po-po/Tommy gettin’ caught is a no-no/Loco, running out of breath”

Tommy only had one chance left to hit his ass with a blast of a .44. The time has come for him to hide. So he dips and rides out. Gotta be down to kill when he peel a nigga’s cap.

These lyrics showcases how violent and gruesome his lyrics really are.

Hide out, time for me to ride out
Slide out a clip for a grip
Put it back full of hollow tips
Then I shoot, a stranger, his pain
But never burn danger, one in da chamber
I kinda stab a nigga slug in his back

Niggas in Memphis thought Tommy was phony as they did not believe he was a Wanted man. He tried to go straight just by selling cassette tapes of his albums. However 5-0 ran him down as soon as he tried to change. So he is back to selling cocaine. No amount of money will ever change him as a person. He is still trill and crunk. Tommy explains his situation in the lyrics below.

Niggas in Memphis thought Tommy was phony
Niggas in the hood didn’t believe I was Wanted
Cause a nigga tried to go straight just selling tapes
Chris shooting niggas, play slugs got a straight ace
Soon as I tried to change
5-0 ran me down
Same thang so I’m back to sellin ‘cain
Money won’t rearrange me, I will never change G, just for a minute had to chill
On the run from the Narcs and the cops hot
Tommy Wright still real, still kill, still trill

I rate this album 5/5*****!
