Review: D-Flexx – Planet Playa

D-Flexx – Planet Playa is an album which incorporates funk and soul into that phat Bay Area Mobb sound given the album a purified old school feeling and lyrical flavor. Funk and soul meet Bay Area rap due to the production. D-Flexx broght his own fresh style of rap called “syrup” which is Southern lyrical flavor as he brought that Southern style of rap to the table being that he is from Shreveport, Louisiana. The production team (Hacim & Crazy 8) came tight with that smooth G-Funk. Their production work was phenomenal.

The tightest underground record label around almost never fails to disappoint. Yet D-Flexx – Planet Playa is one of Black Market Records lesser known albums which did not get as much promotion as their other albums in their catalog. This album went sorely overlooked and flew under the radar. Despite being under-promoted and overlooked, the album D-Flexx – Planet Playa had outstanding success in the Bay Area and the South. D-Flexx – Planet Playa made it to a position at Top Ten on the BillBoard Charts in 1997. D-Flexx’s debut album Planet Playa was released on April 29, 1997.

Only God Knows is one of those songs to listen when you are feeling down and no one will listen to you. Or when things aren’t going your way. D-Flexx teaches and explains to us there is no love in the ghetto. The song deals with survival in the ghetto and how to survive in the ghetto.

The song uses a touch of funk given that the sample used is The Gap Band – Yearning For Your Love. The production team (Hacim & Crazy 8) came tight with that smooth G-Funk. Their production work was phenomenal. Only God Knows made it to a position at Top Ten on the BillBoard Charts in 1997. The song had outstanding success that year.

The song Murder One Lyrics is one of his more darker songs due to the subject matter, lyrics, beats, sound, and production. Bass and beats what bring forth a sense of intensity. The darkness in the sound, production, and lyrics are what stand out. You’ll definitely feel this song.

The way he makes his lyrics rhyme are impeccable. Here are some examples of he makes his dark lyrics rhyme.

Fly like a sparrow
On point like an arrow

Caning niggaz like Singapore
Bring more metaphor menoir

Bring more metaphor menoir
The shit that you can’t cure
I’m hard feel like hieroglyphics

Fly like a sparrow
On point like an arrow
When I’m aiming
Caning niggaz like Singapore
Bring more metaphor menoir
The shit that you can’t cure
I’m hard feel like hieroglyphics
Apocalyptic
Play like Shaq and get lifted

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, murder one lyrics at ya door!

D-Flexx lets his aggression, fury, and anger on Mad At The World. You can obviously tell by looking at the song title alone. This is definitely one of his darker songs.

A touch of R&B and funk are brought in on Playaz Play. The song uses dark sounding beats over R&B chords. His rhymes are decent as always. The perfect song to play during sexual intercourse or a romantic night alone with your lover.

I rate this album 4/5****!
