Review: Swing Republic – Back in Time EP

Swing Republic – Back in Time EP is one of the lesser known electro swing releases which is criminally underrated. This swinging electro swing release from Swing Republic has that vintage jazz sound over modernized electronic production and songs which follow an uptempo pace nonetheless. So expect to hear some upbeat swinging jazz. Swing Republic took us back in time as they experimented with swing and big band. All while using the electronic technology of the future. Their songs use a dedicated balance between contemporary electronic music and vintage swing influences. That is how their songs use a dedicated balance between contemporary and vintage.

Swing Republic took us back in time as they experimented with swing and big band on the titular track Back in Time. The song uses a dedicated balance between contemporary electronic music and vintage swing influences. Jazz meets electronic music in other words. Scat lyrics are used during various portions/parts of the song.

Swing Republic will bring you back in time with this song of theirs. The song will make you shake and smile. So bring that cooler style tonight as they bring the rhythm of yesteryear and swing to retro ears. Where all the cool cats and dolls go to be obscene. They ain’t got no chairs and no tables. Just move your feet. Back in time.

Their rhyming scheme is perfect on this song. Specifically these lyrics to Verse 1. Notice how the ending words used the suffix “-ear”. “Rhythm of yesteryear/Swing my retro ear”

Here We Go is about a gentleman and lady who fall in love out of temptation and energy.

This gentleman and lady got a thing in common. The lady feels the heat when she looks in his eyes. How can she be a fool and miss this gentleman when she doesn’t even really know him? She feels this temptation every day on a daily basis undoubtedly. She is so lost in this energy. She tries to be cool but it’s too late. This lady is burning up and he ignites her flame!

The lady tells the gentleman how she feels the heat whenever she looks at him and how she in love with him by saying, “You and I got a thing in common. Feel the heat when I look in your eyes. How can I be a fool and miss you when I don’t even really know you? Everyday feel this temptation. I’m so lost in this energy. Try to be cool, but baby, it’s too late. I’m burning up and you ignite my flame! Here we go! I’m in love. I’m in love! Wooh oh no! I’m in love. I’m in love again!”

The lady asks the gentleman questions which are, “What do you think would happen if I took your hand and then put it on me? Stop a sec! What is this?” She is saying she used to be such a good girl. Of course she knows he feels the temptation everyday.

The Big Band Theory is wordplay on “The Big Bang Theory”. You have a jazz take on the concept of The Big Bang Theory which is appropriately titled “The Big Band Theory” given that this is a jazz song on an electro swing EP. The big band jazz sound of the 1930s and 1940s is prevalent on this song which is an instrumental.

I rate this EP 5/5*****!!
