Review: Various ‎– New York Hi-Fi: High Fidelity Street Jazz From New York City’s Finest

VA – New York Hi-Fi: High Fidelity Street Jazz From New York City’s Finest is one of the lesser known and overlooked jazz compilations from New York City, New York which did not receive the attention or recognition it truly deserved. The album has that futuristic acid jazz sound with electronic backing. Not too antiquated.

Vibes is a saxophone influenced jazz instrumental which uses heavy bass. The song uses multiple layers of instruments. An example of some of the instruments used are a kick drum, xylophone, saxophone, and upright bass. The bass really stands out.

Road To Knowhere has a new school future jazz sound mixed with a hip hop groove. The bass is just as mean and thick as on the song What It Is. The mood is very chill and calming. The New Breed sound is soothing to many ears. Much of the instrumentation is looped.

Stereo Viewer by Hustletron Viewer uses a collection of drenched jazz samples and electronic soundscapes with moog synthesizers and beat machines which were fairly advanced for 1995. Hustletron (Hal Lee) helped bring a new generation of sound to the New Breed label in 1995 with DJ Smash and Groovilicious.

Maximizer uses a collection of drenched jazz samples, dope breakbeats, and electronic soundscapes with moog synthesizers and beat machines which were fairly advanced for 1995. The jazzy and electronic sounds of this Hustletron song helped the song become an underground hit. Maximizer is one of the more well known Hustletron songs which Hustletron fans are familiar with.

I rate this album 5/5*****!!
