The World of entertainment always provides us with new, original, ideas constantly however, in some cases, the industry also gives us ideas that we have seen before.
This week Impact Wrestling introduced there new Digital Media title which would see it being defended on there ‘Impact +’ and YouTube platforms.
A great concept had it not been established, only 3 months, after The Enzugiri Network had created there Social Media Championship which has seen a list of established title holders such as Justin Credible, Vampiro and Tatanka, over the last few months, help the title gain momentum with it’s originality.
This of course is not a dig at Impact at all, if anything, this is a great way to present Pro Wrestling’s current relationship with the online world through a major platform however, it’s more the case, they didn’t come up with the idea first.
Did Impact Wrestling steal the idea from T.E.N Wrestling? To be honest who really knows where Impact officials got there idea from or if it just happens to be a coincidence that these two similar championships were birthed only months a part of each other.
At the end of the day there is certainly room for two titles aimed at the same type of media, as all you have to do is look at the amount of TV titles that popped up in the 90’s, but I think that larger companies should show smaller groups some love, and admit that this is where they got the concept from, if that was to be the case.
But hey you could also argue that the concept of this particular championships origins go back to Matt Cardona’s ‘Internet Championship’, from a decade ago, or even All Pro Wrestling’s Internet title which was established all the way back in 1999!!!
Who knows but one thing we certainly do know is that no idea is original in the weird, and wonderful, world of entertainment!!!
