Artist Spotlight (Interview) Jesse Neo

Artist Spotlight (Interview) Jesse Neo

Jesse Neo – singer, songwriter, DJ, producer – just released a new single, called “Sex Magic.” And it’s rocket tight and hella-good! The twenty-year-old British-Australian commenced violin, voice and piano lessons when he was seven. Within months he was composing original music. By the time he was eighteen, he’d composed over 100 songs. Now living in the Land Down Under, “where women glow and men thunder,” he composes full time.

Stylistically, Neo blends pop, electronic dance, hip hop and a hint of new wave into a stylish, cool sound where the various stylistic elements intersect. The closest I can come to describing Neo’s sound is this: imagine a hybrid of Skrillex, Diplo, Eurythmics and the Talking Heads. Then add dynamic charged particles, effective layering and moussed semiotics of vivacious assertion. That’s a bit what Neo’s sound is like.

W recently caught up with Jesse Neo to speak music, influences and more!! check it out below.

Peace Family, to start off let the people know where do you hail from?

I am originally from Sydney, Australia, but currently live in Los Angeles, USA.

How did your artist name come about?
It is my name, but from time to time, I like to put DJ in front of it to make me sound more accomplished. 😊

How long have you been making music?
I have been making music since I was around 7 or 8, the same time when I started taking music lessons. I remember at times when practising became boring, I would spice things up by inventing melodies and chord progressions. Eventually as I grew up, I took song writing more seriously.

How would you describe the sound around your music, the background/inspirations behind it?
Most of the music that I make these days are electronic and pop. From time to time, I would include other elements into it. I just love experimenting with new sounds, which is pretty much a gift in the EDM world. Lyrically, my songs are about love, acceptance, breaking free and ultimately, having fun.

How do you spend your time outside of the business?

When I’m not working, I love reading and travelling. I am always lost in a novel or learning about someone else’s life in their autobiography.

What are your current thoughts of the music business in 2020?

I think a lot is changing in the business, especially with the pandemic and everything going online. I mean, the majority of music fans consume their music digitally online, and I think this will continue for years to come.

What have you got planned for the near future?

I am hoping to release more music, collaborate with other artists, and film a music video. Filming a music video is something that I have been wanting to do for a very long time because it gives so much meaning to the song. I planned to film it this year, but due to the lockdown, it has now been postponed until next year.

What inspires you when you make your music?

I get my inspiration from anywhere. Of course, my emotions and daily life play a huge role, but I also get my ideas from walking down the street, seeing friends, watching TV and even from dreams in my sleep.

What music are you bumping at the moment?

I have been listening to a lot of early 2000s punk these days. I kind of miss that era when those bands ruled the charts. It’s good to be able to travel back in time to a place when everything seemed so much simpler.

Who’s in your Top 5 greatest artist of all time?

I have so many artists that I don’t even know where to start. In no particular order, I am very inspired by Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, David Guetta and Martin Garrix.

Where can the world find you on the web?

You can visit my Instagram: @jesseneoofficial

Do you have anything you’d like to plug or let the people know about?

A few months ago, I launched an online music marketplace called Gemtracks where artists can buy beats. Many of the beats were made by me and can be purchased for around $150 with the copyright included.

Thanks for your time and we look forward to hearing more from you in future!
